This weekend Representative Malinowski hosted the second meeting of the 2019-2020 Youth Advisory Council at Union County Community College. Over 150 high school students from across New Jersey's 7th district are participating this school year.

Over the course of the day Representative Malinowski's Legislative Director Eliza Ramirez gave a presentation on the ins and outs of the legislative process in Washington, DC. Students then broke into 14 different committees to brainstorm and collaborate on legislative ideas. Representative Malinowski met with each committee to review their work and offer his guidance. They will present their final bills to the Congressman during their last meeting in May.

"There is nothing more important than ensuring that we have citizens who are active and engaged in the legislative process," said Representative Malinowski. "I'm so proud that we can offer this initiative to students throughout the district, and I'm excited to continue working with them throughout the year."

"Today's event was something that should be copied by Congressional districts around the US. It's amazing how it allows students to have a voice in their future. I really enjoyed that we were shown how politics and government should work. I loved every moment of it," said Rebecca Kelleher from Flemington.

"It was a wonderful opportunity to engage with the Congressman on a person to person level. I really enjoyed the breakdown of the legislative process from Tom's Legislative Director, Eliza," said Jenna Smith from Scotch Plains.
